anti-fungal cream safe for silkie?

Thank you, I will certainly keep you posted. You can give them the clotrimazole cream orally? How much do you give? You just take it from the tube and put it in their mouth? Should I give her the clotrimazole orally and forgo the oral nystatin?

I think in this case, I would keep applying directly to the skin. If this were more of an internal thing, the oral route might be better. But because you CAN attack it directly, I would keep it on the skin.

However just for the sake of knowing, orally I give 1ml for 1% and a 1/2ml for the 2% stuff. Right on the tongue or under neath. If the crop has a yeast infection or the bird has vent gleet and is in really bad shape, I give this 2 or 3 times a day.

I can't thank you enough twocrows, you have been an invaluable resource. Using this cream on my girl's skin has made her soooo much more comfortable, and I never would have thought of bathing her with dandruff shampoo. We are getting such great results that are immediately noticable! I will have to post some follow-up pictures in a couple of days. Maybe this will help somebody who is having similar issues. I honestly thought this darned fungal infection was going to take her life, but now I have a feeling she just may make it.... that's if there's no internal damage. Now I have to seriously work on getting her immune system built back up. I bought some plain kefir that I will syringe feed her if she won't drink it and will continue with the vitamin/electrolyte mixture. Have a Happy Thanksgiving, and thank you again.

This is great news! I really hope she continues to improve! And if she does heal up completely, you might want to write up an article about it from our members pages. Just like I have links in my signature to crop issues, egg binding, leg issues, etc... That way when someone searches our archives looking for help with skin fungal infections they will find your article. We have a writing contest going on right now too and you might enter it this contest! 10 winners get their articles in our learning center!

I'm so happy I could hug you! I went down to check on her this morning and all the scales are falling off in sheets to reveal nice healthy black skin. She is now talking up a storm when she hears my voice.... she hasn't been her usual talkative self in months. Silkies are very vocal and are known for conversation. She is feeling so much better. I will continue putting the clotrimazole cream on her face and wings and body, she loves the rub downs too. I have been giving her 2.5 ml of the nystatin oral also, along with kefir and vitamins/electrolytes. She finished her 5 day course of flagyl a couple of days ago (the recommended 125mg daily.) I have been giving her an assortment of broccoli, peas, kale, corn, bananas, strawberries, peaches, and scrambled eggs on a plate daily to try to cover her nutritional needs. I will post some new pictures, her progress is phenomenal! She has lost many of her feathers, but the skin looks so healthy underneath. She looks like a naked neck now instead of a bearded fluffy silkie, but getting back to health day by day. Who knew fungus could wreak such havoc? Thank you so much for reaching out to me, I don't know what I would have done if I hadn't found this forum.

I am so happy she is feeling better, talking and getting all the lovin'. Keep us posted and I do hope she makes a full recovery!!!

I know it has been a while since I have been on byc The holidays and 8 month old infant have kept me very busy..... Along with taking care of my chickens. I have to post an update on my silkie hen. I have some pictures to show her progress. After my last posting I gave her more of the kitten revolution above her neck where she couldn't reach it..... She has made remarkable progress even since I took these pictures. She is finally eating her crumbles like a madwoman! She hasn't wanted her crumbles in months, I have been preparing fresh meals for her twice a day! She is drinking plenty of water again too! Her feathers are growing back on her body, face, head and ears.....her beard is coming back, her skin is black again. She has beautiful healthy clear skin beneath her wings. She is even getting the blue color back on her ears that was gone for so long. I know these pictures still look pretty bad....... But this is so good for how rough of a condition she was in. I will post more pics within the next few days when my older daughter can hold her so under her wings can be seen.... And the blue coloring that has returned to her ears. Hopefully this can help people who may be dealing with this type of illness. Again, I want to thank everybody who gave such wonderful advice and took the time to help me. I apologize it took me so long to post these pictures.

I could've written the same exact article as I've been doing the same thing -treating for everything else! He did get very weak and could hardly stand so he got one on one and got better and then this flared up! I'm so glad to know now what to do! I'm headed out to get what I need and get started! I too will post pics but not sure if its best to start a new thread? Sorry-new at this! But again THANK YOU ALL!!!!
