Gapeworm?

I just tried giving 1/2 cc of Safeguard and I suffocated her!  I went down the side of her mouth but I managed to kill her.  So far I have lost 4 to gape's and I have a 4 mo. old BLR Wyandotte gaping out in the coop.  She would not eat any Panacur bread.  I really need help.  I am fixing to go get some Wazine if I hear it works so answer soon, burnin' daylight as they say.

So sorry to hear about your girls :(. I picked up some safeguard paste at our local feed because I fear I may have the same outcome as far as it going down the wrong pipe. Its apple/cinnamon flavored so I am hoping they will eat it as I have yet to try it. I read that a small pea size should be given. I am not sure if wazine will do the trick as I have no experience with it but I read that it is not effective on gapes.

Wish me luck, this evening i am gonna catch Queen Elizabeth and try with Panacur this time. She refuses to eat so lets pray I do it right this time. Will call a long time friend vet tomorrow and see what I need to do before I lose all my girls. Thanks for answering, you are a good person, God bless you. Ginger

Got Queen Elizabeth medicated with .6cc of Panacur and I did not suffocate her! Lets see if this helps a chicken that has gapeworms.

So sorry! Did you place the syringe down the right-hand side of her mouth? Wazine will not treat gapes.

Hey ging
My best help came from this thread . One suggestion helped with those that were less cooperative. Just give them a little at a time and let them swallow it.
If I keep my turkeys, I am going to get some tubing to slide it past the treach... the syringe, I was feared I would pull it as I injected the meds then drown the beast. ..
Once I got it in there, they were fine... I would have freaked if someone did that to me.
I had an EGG but they knocked me out for it... if I remember, they ended up doing it twice... bad belly and reflux.. anyway...

thanks for trying. Panacur down the throat (correctly ) has the 2 gaping girls on the mend. ( .1cc ) of ivermectin (injectable) in everybody's mouth will worm them all. i will spray color on them as i do them. I will do them after their bedtime so i can get more done. Wish me luck.. I don't know how often i will need to do this, i hope not all the time.

For gapes it's no less than 3 consecutive days with fenbendazole (Safeguard and Panacur). Some studies say 3 days, some books say 5 days, and I think one book might even say 7, but don't quote me on that.
