Hello!

Welcome to BYC and the coop! There's a lot of great peeps here! Feel free to ask lots of questions. But most of all, make yourself at home. I'm so glad you decided to joined the BYC family. I look forward to seeing you around BYC.

So I have my girl Sussex and I want to get her a friend or two to keep her company. I was thinking about getting her a couple of chick's from tractor supply. But I'm wondering if she would take to them or not. Or if I wait for her to have her own chick. Or maybe order a hen and from where. She's doing great and very attached to me. I love spending time with her but she needs more than just me. Help please lol

Baby chicks will require a heat source, and may have to be kept separate until your hen can integrate with them. There is a wealth of info about integrating birds. I had the best success integrating chicks when younger- (3-6 weeks) but requires space where the chicks can hide from the older birds when needed.

As for her to have her own chicks you would need a rooster for fertile eggs and she would have to go broody or an incubator.

I have a suggestion.. You may be able to get a companion chicken that is already grown. Here is a link to the largest Ohio thread. Local peeps from Ohio regularly post and read posts here. There you can post , that you are looking for a chicken in your town or close by. You may get a response sooner than you think.

Another option is Craigs list. I have found chickens available there. The listing are in your town or close by. That is how I found my serama hen a while back.
