hi all, hoping to get some advice on my roo. I hatched him myself in spring of 2015 so he's almost a year old. he's a dominquie rooster. I also have another rooster who is very lively. they do not fight at all. this rooster has always been kind of docile and not very rooster like. he didn't crow much or mate much but he definitely had spirit and would crow. in the past two weeks I have noticed his behavior take a turn. he seems almost depressed. he seems afraid of the hens and does not like to go near them. he's often by himself he does eat but only once the others have cleared. he hasn't rarely crowed or mated or strutted around. it's like he's sick but I haven't a clue why. in the last two days he really hasn't been himself. he hides under the coop but still goes outside. he stays all puffed up and crouched and keeps his neck scrunched up. he's been this way for a while now. I live in New England so it's started to get very cold here. I have checked his crop and it's not engorged at all.

I am looking for any advice here on what to do or what to look for or any ideas on what could be wrong because I am really worrying about him now.

this is a picture of him tonight

Any advice or help at all? Graphics included. Really could use some suggestions.

The only thing that comes to mind is coccidosis. It can make them puff up with a scrunched neck and depressed, just what you describe. I had it in my flock and 1 acted like that too. It wouldn't hurt to give a round of Corid, just in case.

What is on his back?
Have you picked him up and inspected him for any injuries under the feathers?
Have you inspected him for mites/lice?
Has he been wormed?
Have you treated for cocci?
What does his poop look like?
How does his crop feel? If he is being kept from the food he may be ingesting bedding or other materials.
Any sneezing, wheezing, runny nose, eyes?
If you haven't done so, isolate him from the flock and put him in a warm quiet area with his own food and water so you can monitor him more closely.
Do you have any other photos?
