In the Brooder
We have a large farm and are more than happy to have one or even two roosters. Unfortunately I think almost all my birds are!
First of all, these pretty ones were sold to me as Araucanna. I know they are not. Let's just call them pretty chickens. The Production Red looking two I'm confident are hens. (Outside by the tire)
that dark thing with the black tail on the floor here is a roo for sure. It crows a ton. Is there any hope for that critter on the bar? I can try to get better pics tomorrow. (I didn't plan to ask while I was out there so I didn't take pictures with this in mind.)
I ask because I plan to cull some of them this week and I'd hate to kill a hen. Also because that guy on the bar started building a nest today and another that looks just like it also did. I was SURE the three that look like that were roo's and have heard one of them crow but now I'm confused.
I want to leave one rooster when I'm done and I'm leaning towards leaving that one you see on the floor here.
They are all about 5-6 months old. No one is laying, but they all got aged up in the winter so I didn't expect eggs till almost spring.
Thanks for any help!
