We adopted this pig on the 12th, so she has been with us just under 2 weeks now. We have named her Elsa. A vet was supposedly looking her over as my other half did the adoption paperwork. She said all was well and he brought her home. I was appalled to see the condition of her hooves and since the shelter had her close to a month with a vet on premises, I am shocked they let them be that bad. We are working on them little by little, but have a very long way to go to get them to where they should be.
In addition to the hooves, I quickly noticed that her girl bits looked swollen. I thought perhaps it was heat, but it hasn't gone down. Her tail hits it as it wags. This is our first pig so we are inexperienced. I know that pigs are pregnant for 3 months, 3 weeks, and 3 days, but I don't know when she would have mated. She was at the shelter for approximately a month, but she was in a small stall alone so it would have happened before then.
She is a very social pig and is happy to follow us around and is fine hanging out with the dogs in the yard, but gets annoyed if they go into her pen area. She had been rolling for belly rubs but now it seems difficult for her. I am thinking that is because of weight on the hooves which makes it that much more difficult to trim them, so we are getting what we can while she stands and hoping we will soon be able to get her to roll again so we can finish the job faster.
I think Elsa is pregnant. My other half thinks I am just being paranoid. What do you think?
