Rhode Island Red with very red backside

Okay I will take your suggestion and check thoroughly. The only other observation with this hen is that I don't ever see her preen. Her feathers look a bit matted and I always wonder why she doesn't seem to clean herself. Maybe I am just missing it and I will observe more. Thank you.
 
Just wanted to update this thread. After almost 2 years now or close to it the RIR is finally starting to grow her feathers back. Not sure why she could not grow any for such a long period of time and I would definitely say it was not due to mites.

What is really unusual is that now that they are starting to grow back her personality has completely changed. She was very docile in the past and you could pick her up very easily and she wouldn't fuss but now all of a sudden she is skittish and if you try to hold her she freaks out. We also call her the whiner because she would always whine until we opened the gate and let her up on the deck. She stopped all of a sudden. Anyway I thought it was interesting and just passing it along.
