They are all 8 or 9 weeks old. Any help would be appreciated. The Rhode Island Red is for sure the "boss"...so I would guess she would be female? The cochin does test her from time to time though. The silkies are just kinda "there"...no real personality at this point.

the red and the Cochin are pullets. The silkies, I'm pretty sure the non-black one is female. The blacks, no idea at this point.

agree with donrae re: cochin and RIR

The silkies I need to see front face view with the crest pulled back to actually see the COMB. Folks just don't do this with silkie photos and it's a shame. All that fluff can hide some really big combs.

It's still young on the silkies - best to see them at 4-5 mos.- nice looking birds

As to personality in flock, with big crests like your silkies have - vision is often obscured. People think erroneously that silkies are stupid or boring. Often when folks trim the crest and beards back, a whole new personality emerges. Crests will grow back if you plan to show.

Thank you SO much for all your help! I was SO worried about buying unsexed chicks, but I guess I won the "pullet" lottery so to speak. I know the silkies are hard to sex...I'll be patient.

And by them not having much of a personality (the silkies), they were that way before they got their huge crests. The black one in particular HATES being touched, let alone picked up...was that way from day one. I bought them from a breeder that only breeds to show/sell his high dollar "show" chickens as he's a poultry judge. Not sure if that has anything to do with personalities. I had just always heard how "sweet" and "gentle" silkies were, and so far, from these two I'm not quite on the silkie "bandwagon" so to speak.

The calico cochin is the sweetest, funniest, and most entertaining of the bunch...her name is Clementine. She puts my other cochin (hen) to shame in the personality department.

I don't see anything screaming cockerel at this point, but I am suspicious about some of them. Repost pics in a couple more weeks and I could give you a better idea of the genders.
