Day 26 of incubation duck pip'd on wrong side

I have never hatched ducks but have to think that they are pretty similar chickens when they are hatching. I have had a few pip the wrong end. Some have hatched on their own, but some have not. I would keep a close eye. If it does not look like the duck is making any progress then you have to go with your gut. If your gut tells you it needs help, it probably does. If you have never assisted a hatch before, there are several videos that will give good directions. You need to go very slow... it is a very slow process. If there is any blood - STOP - put the egg back and wait. Just chip away little bits at a time with tweezers and keep the membranes moist. Make sure that you are not assisting too soon though. There is a lot going on while chicks are zipping - absorbing yolk and blood vessels. You do not want to help too soon. If you do you can kill the chick. Good luck.
