I'm thinkin I need a Chickens For Dummies book... LOL...I'm a "chicken-virgin"... we have 8 brand new chicks that we got from the local feed store. We already had 2 beautiful, very bored roosters. So far so good... ♡

Hi welcome-byc.gif

Glad you could join the flock! Congrats on your new chicks celebrate.gif Love your pic they are very cute. If you have 2 Roos I would consider getting rid of one of them as they could fight with each other over any girls you have with them. Also 1 roo can easily handle 8-10 hens on his own, if you have more boys they could over breed your girls and cause them damage due to the over breeding.
Have you checked out the learning centre? Lots of great articles there to have read through to help you keep your flock happy, safe & healthy. Here is the link ~ http://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

There is a book called "Raising chickens for dummies" you can find it in the BYC store ~ http://www.coopedup.net/buy/

Wishing you the very best of luck, be sure to ask any questions that you may have. Everyone here to help &a very friendly.

Enjoy BYC & all the chicken chat frow.gif

Did a moth know that the flame was going to change her life forever, or did she simply fly towards that heated embrace, knowing it would offer her something she couldn't give herself? In the end, the answer didn't really matter. The moth had never wanted the choice. -Joey W. Hill-

I set fire to the rain! Watch it pour as I, touched your face. Well it burn while I cried, because I heard it screaming out your name. And I threw us into flames. I knew that was the last time, the last time...I set fire to the rain! -Adele

agree with Yorkshire Coop      and a rooster is not necessary for the hens to produce eggs.  Only needed if you want fertile eggs for hatching or sale.
