New to this but love my chickens already

I love that gray one. Its beautiful I haven't gotten that far yet but I'm already wanting more. But I know I have to learn a lot more before I get any more
 
Actually, i wanted to cull the grey one last week, but my wife (who originally despised chickens) refused - how mad is that? She's great (the chicken), but goes broody all the time which is a pain. But anyway, her bacon was saved by my wife so thats how it will go. Ironic that its me that has to shove her in the broody buster every 3 weeks though!

Its always good to build up gradually, so you are right, in wanting to get more experience under your belt before getting more - and believe me, you will want more

. Also, your current coop does not look like it will accommodate any more, so maybe make some plans to build a bigger coop (if thats possible) because insufficient space causes a lot of stress on chickens.

I get my layer feed from a local feed/farm store. Its owned locally by a family and they mix their own non GMO feed and grow some of the ingredients. It cost about the same as commercial brands. I also feed them organic oats I get from a local farmer (found them on Craig's list.). They also get vegetable scraps and sometime when it gets cold out they get a warm bowl of oatmeal before bed.

I have 9 hens but soon to be 7. I have to rehome my favorite girl b/c the rest of the flock terrorizes her and pulls all of her feathers. I have her in her own 'room' inside the coop but its not fair to her to keep her locked up like that. So I'm sending her to live with a friend this weekend and hes taking a second one as a companion for her. I'm hoping it all works out and I'll b able to go see her when I want.

What beautiful girls you have. So glad you shared. Love the coloration of the gray.
 
Very nice to meet you Josh- glad you joined the Backyard chickens flock. In chicken terms, the indoor part is the coop, the outdoor fenced area is their run, ,roosts are the horizontal poles that they fly up and sleep on during the night. Nest boxes, are smaller boxed areas for the hens to use when laying their eggs. You'll do fine here.
 
Drumstick diva thank you for that I have been wondering that for a week now... Yochickiemomma I couldn't imagine having to give one up and I have only had mine for a week I don't know what these little girls do but they just find a way to your heart real quick
