Greetings!

Hello all,

I reside in Texas and we are in the process of building a small 8'L x 5'H x 5'W coop. We aquired a chicken from a relative and hope to get a couple chicks once the coop is done. We are not sure of the chicken's age or gender or breed. I had assumed a hen. Here she is...

And here again, after getting defensive...

Tail feathers are always held high but it doesn't strut around. Like above all the time.

I have read lots of helpful info before joining and hope to learn much more. Thanks!

Hi welcome-byc.gif

Glad you could join the flock! Nice bird you have there but I too have no clue I'm afraid. Please do post your pics in the what breed gender section. Here is the link ~ http://www.backyardchickens.com/f/15/what-breed-or-gender-is-this
I'm sure other greeters and members will be able to help you.

Wishing you the very best of luck and enjoy BYC frow.gif

I look forward to seeing you around BYC. I'm not that familiar with that breed. Good luck with him/her. smile.png
Did a moth know that the flame was going to change her life forever, or did she simply fly towards that heated embrace, knowing it would offer her something she couldn't give herself? In the end, the answer didn't really matter. The moth had never wanted the choice. -Joey W. Hill-

I set fire to the rain! Watch it pour as I, touched your face. Well it burn while I cried, because I heard it screaming out your name. And I threw us into flames. I knew that was the last time, the last time...I set fire to the rain! -Adele

pretty bird,  I am thinking it is a pullet  with some game bird background.  Please post in the " what breed or gender is this." thread for more experienced opinions.

Welcome.

One chicken is a good start, and yes they sorta need buddys.

So more chickens is an ideal.

But..sometimes the big chicken will pick on the little one being

added to the flock. Need to watch and prepare for that.

Spook
