I have a sick barred rock. She is about 7 months old. I started noticing a little oddness in her behavior about a week ago. Last night when I gave them thier treat she was already on the roost and didn't come out for the treats. This morning she was outside with the other girls but laying down and did not come running for treats. I noticed she has runny green poo. I inspectors her and did not see any obvious issues. The fact that I picked her up is a sign she is sick. She was the hardes to get a hold of. I put her in the garage with a heat lamp some corn and water. She is mint moving around much but she is eating and drinking. Any guesses on what might be wrong?

She should be getting a balanced layer feed instead of just corn--it has twice the protein that she needs, plus vitamins. I would check inside her vent an inch or so with one finger for a stuck egg. Her green poop could be a result of not eating. Could she have been kept from food and water by the other chickens. Since she may be really sick or dehydrated, put some Poultry Vitamins and electrolytes in her water--SaveAChick and Rooster Booster Vitamins with Lactobacillus are good. If she hasn't been wormed before, that may be good to do.

She is the biggest girl I have. I think she was queen of the roost. I usually only feed them layer crumbles and party mix meal worms and corn for a treat. I gave her the corn today because she wasn't eating the hard food. I have been looking around here and the Internet and think it may be a bacterial infection. I bought some yogurt and some medicine from tractor supply and some the electrolytes. I hope it helps her. I was wondering about the egg thing.

Do you have a local vet who could do a fecal float to look for coccidiosis or worms? I live about 3 hours from you, and most vets do not see chickens, but my regular vet would probably do the fecal float. There are just so many things that can make chickens sick. Did she have any vaccinations, such as Mareks when she was hatched? I forgot to suggest feeling of her crop for fullness or impaction, feeling her breastbone for weight loss, and checking her especially under the vent for mites or lice.
