What does this look like to you ××pics××

I am sorry to come on and find your hen did not make it. It is a shame to lose any let alone to mites.

It wasn't the mites. Turns out tea tree oil contains chemicals called terpenes. They are toxic to a lot of animals. The terpenes were absorbed through her skin and effected her central nervous system . I attempted to wash her off to stall the poisoning but it was too late age just slowly stopped breathing. I hope this can act as a learning opportunity for everyone. Don't use tea tree oil on your animals. I read online you could .. But the reality is essential oils are a new fad and a lot of the products don't necessarily contain much active ingredient. So the stories you read people were likely just rubbing smelly vegetable oil on their bird. I can tell you, do your research on terpenes toxicities ... My bird was dead within 20 hours from 3 drops of tea tree oil mixed with 3oz of olive oil smeared on her legs ONCE. ..

Thanks. If Amy good comes of this hopefully someone else will do a search and find this thread and will save their bird. It's tough losing an animal that relies on you, let alone to lose her to something I did :s

Some garden plants are sold without any kind of warning that every single part of the plant is highly toxic as well. I learned that the hard way myself. Lilly ate a bit of a tiny ground cover plant and died from the toxicity of it.

I am so very sorry you are dealing with losing her in this way. As enola said your heart was in the right place when you were trying to help her.
