First time Raising chickens

This is my newest addition. He is 1 year old. His name is Mufasa, and I think he is a Rhode Island Red.

Apologize for staying away, but after having a very successful summer. I am wondering, do chickens continue laying eggs in the winter? I imagine they will, but at a reduced rate.

They will but it will be knocked way back. Chickens need 14 hours of daylight per day for consistent laying. In the winter months, particularly in the northern latitudes, there is a lot less than 14 hours light. Some folks add artificial light to the coop to keep them laying. Others use the long, dark months to allow them to rest. I know last winter I had a lot of 1 and 2 egg days and even the occasional zero eggs in December and January. And that from about 20 hens!
