Narrow Run for a couple Urban Chickens

I am considering whether keeping 2 hens on my urban property is feasible. I have a narrow gangway that I am thinking could work, but I am wondering how narrow is too narrow for a chicken run? I would be able to let them out here and there to wonder around my property, but they would have to be supervised, so it may not be daily.

I think as long as the hens are able to move around and turn around freely in the run, it will be fine. How long and wide is the area you've got? For a run I'd suggest around 12 sq feet per hen, minimum, to keep them comfortably.

I would think that is too narrow for large hens, they would struggle to get past each other. Smaller breeds, or bantams maybe? I'm new to chickens myself but have three broilers (14 weeks) that wouldn't fit past each other in that space.

That is a bit narrow for standard size chickens, but it should be fine for smaller breeds, like bantams. Some bantams are really small. They'll have plenty space to roam length-wise, so that's good. Have a look through the Breeds tab at the breeds available and if you see anything you like, check the General breed discussions & FAQ forum section for threads on the breeds and see what their keepers and breeder say?
 
Would your narrow run area have a view, other than bricks or fence? Birds like to be able to see out. The one good point is a narrow run would be very easy to cover, to keep hawks out, and offer some rain or snow protection. I don't know how chickens would feel, but, generally a long, narrow area causes a lot of bored pacing in other animals.
