Hi, I am new and have 2 (2 day old chicks) the hutch part with the babies is up a bit high in the coop. Will the babies know how to walk up and down the ramp or will they fall clumsily? Will mom guide them?

Hello and welcome!

If Momma Hen is there they should do fine, but I'm sure there will be one who falls!
I'm having trouble visualizing what you are saying....how high is high? If you are really worried, make sure there is a supersoft landing for the klutz - toss down several inches of straw/shavings what have you, under the ramp.

If the mom is there, she will prevent falls- but if a chick falls, it will usually land safely due to excessive flapping. Just to be sure, take boskelli1571's advice: soft stuff under ramp.

They will fall and probably injure themselves somehow. Lock Mom add chicks in the coop. They will be fine. These baby chicks need to be able to access Moms warmth. If one falls she may not attend it because she has to take care of the other one. Chickens are not smart. If you have other chickens, do not depend on them to help a separated chick. It's not their chick. The babies and Mom only need 4-5 sq. ft. for their baby section. 1 sq. ft. per chick and 3 sq. ft. for Mom, one sq. ft. for water and feed. Just put up a partition in the coop.
Best,
Karen
