We started raising chickens about a year and a half ago and are trying to get more in tune with their health and habits. I made a list of things to check and we plan on checking one chicken a week. Does anyone use a chart like this? Can anyone thing of something that should also be checked/observed? Appreciate any help in getting us off on the right foot.

Hi and welcome to BYC - what you have is a great starting point I'd say. I guess that as you use it, you will find things that you may have overlooked.

All the best

Your chart looks pretty thorough to me but I was wondering about checking the crop, do you have it covered under one of your existing categories? Slow, sour, impacted crops can have quite an impact on a bird's health.

Thanks for joining us!

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! I too agree that your chart is very well thought out. I'm afraid I don't use anything like this with my flock. I hope it helps you with the health of your flock.

Wishing you the very best of luck and enjoy BYC :frow

Sounds like a great idea and would work with small flocks but, I doubt someone with large numbers could spare all the time involved with such detailed record keeping. The more time you spend raising them the sooner you will notice when something looks awry.
