Hello. I purchashed 4 hens and the are just about 8 months old. Almost 3 months ago, they started laying. For a couple weeks I was getting 2 to 3 eggs each day. So I assumed 3 of them had began laying and the 4th would start soon. However, I am now only getting 2 eggs a day. I have a barred rock laying and a Rhode Island red ( we have 2 of each of these hens) is there something I need to be doing to help encourage them all to lay? This is my first year on the farm and first time ever having chickens. Any suggestions will be appreciated

It is not unusual for hens to take a break during the short days of winter. Now that day length is increasing, all of your hens will start laying.

Ok so most likely since they started first laying when the short days were happening they all just haven'tstarted yet. Thank you so much!

Hi and welcome to BYC. Sour land has hit the nail on the head I'd say - they'll be up an laying in no time.

All the best

Now that the days are getting longer, I hope you see eggs soon.

Thanks for joining us!

Thank you for the help everyone! I really appreciate it. I will just have to be patient! :)
