Is this safe for my ducks

If it's food grade, that much less trouble than the other kind.

I hope someone with experience will chime in here. I use that under the bedding in the cracks and corners to discourage bugs - I have not ever put it on the ducks or in their food. One concern I have is simply that it's a silicon particulate - not something I want them to breathe in.

When I put it under the bedding, I mean it's really not easy to get at, and is tucked into cracks.
 
I want to treat for mites so I am looking for something to dust on my ducks. Also, I want to treat for worms and thought that might work. I posted last week about my sick duck and really didn't get any responses. My not quite 2 year old khaki Campbell has clear poops and lost over half her body weight. I took her to the vet and they really don't know what's wrong. They treated her for worms and yeast as a precaution and also for bacteria. I've been giving them all vitiams in their water and started tube feeding Olive on Sunday. She seems like she perked up a bit but doesn't like the tube feeding. She won't eat anything. She started forging just a bit but she's not getting all the food and nutrients she needs. I want to treat her for mites along with my other 3 and treat my other 3 for worms now that Olive was treated. It's hard watching her be sick. I've been googling and trying to research on my own. Do you have any suggestions for me? Thanks
 
I (am a fairly new duck mom, but read a lot) have never heard of ducks having problems with mites like chickens sometimes do. I would take care to find mites before treating for them.
Have you tried adding RAW Apple cider vinegar to her water, it will help build the good bacteria in the gut and aid in the absorption of nutrients from their food. It can only do good things so it's worth a try. Good luck with your babies ;-).
 
DE only discourages mites and worms. It won't get rid of them. Apple cider vinegar is a good supplement, but also won't get rid of worms or mites. Is you sick hen laying? What is she eating when foraging? If she isn't eating her food, try another brand of duck chow.
 
I think you would be able to see mites if they are there. Ducks don't tend to get them often. And if she has worms, then a fecal test would tell you.

Some of the things that can cause a duck problems include egg yolk peritonitis - a systemic infection caused by egg yolk getting loose in the body cavity. That can be treated with Baytril, and in turn that can ruin her appetite and require syringe or tube feeding.

Sometimes they can get a digestive or egg-laying system infection, or other general infection. They can get sinus infections, ear infections. They can have nutrient deficiencies.
 
We moved from Wisconsin to Florida 4 months ago. We used to buy our feed from tractor supply. Since we moved we switched their feed but we just found a tractor supply on Sunday. They all have been switched back.

I started tube feeding on Sunday with exact hand feeding bird feed. I only have been doing that twice a day and that's with her meds too. I see her picking at the grass so not sure if she's just eating dirt or if she is finding bugs too. She has been with the other 3 during the day forging and inside at night. She hasn't laid since she was indoors on Friday. I don't think she was laying for a week before that either. That's when I noticed her clear poops hanging from her behind and thought she might have a shell less egg. I was soaking her in warm water then. Well she still isn't any better. She does walk around more now since her meds and tube feeding. She would just separate from the flock before and sleep.

I will buy some apple cider vinager and try that. I just want her to be healthy again :(
 
I just want to repeat that if you think she has worms, get her a fecal test. It's not that expensive, here at least, and if she's frail, I don't think deworming will help if she does not have worms.

I took her to the vet. I paid for a test along with a lot of other stuff. I feel that Olive was there for show so everyone could see and pet a duck on my expense. She dewormed her after she did a poop test as a precaution. That's what I was told anyway. Olive has been dewormed but I want to deworm the rest of my birds just as a precaution as well. My husband bought wazine tonight. Is that good and ok?
