Baby Chicks

There's a lot of great peeps here! Feel free to ask lots of questions. But most of all, make yourself at home. I'm so glad you decided to join the BYC family. I look forward to seeing you around the run. Good luck with your chicks.

Hi and welcome to BYC - glad to have you join us. There's lots of info in the Learning Centre and if you wish to meet up with other members local to you, you can join your state thread. Treats are fine (but keep them to a minimum) but its good to give your chicks access to grit so they can process food properly. If you let them outdoors, then they will get what they need from soil etc. Alternatively, throw a sod of grass (soil an all) into the brooder.

All the best

Chicks are like kids. Treats are like candy to them and they will turn up their nose at nutritionally balanced chick starter. Treats should make up no more than 10% of their menu. I would wait 2-3 weeks to give any treats at all. Some things can bring on crop issues especially if they aren't getting some grit. Even some
small cage bird grit /gravel will work.
