Greetings, my good friend/housemate and I are starting from scratch here with you guys as our chicken support community! Don't get me wrong, we are animal people and between the two of us we have raised a small army of various types of animalia. Just thought, "hey, might be fun to try with an online support community!"

So, we are looking at the possibilities and all that it would entail to bring our own little brood of chickens into the world literally from the ground up! I am a builder and can make just about anything from scratch and my housemate possesses one of the finer minds known to humankind. As you can also see, we are also very humble :p I'll supply some pix later of the space we are working with for those who may be interested in maybe throwing in on the planning process?

We are really excited to be embarking on this process and look forward to working with you all!

Cheers,

Coock!

Hey, Coock, welcome to BYC. Poultry raising is good common sense animal husbandry. The methods that you have used with other species will work here, Click on 'The Learning Center' located at the top of the page then go to the forums check out what interests you and question away. Good luck in establishing your flock.

so glad you have joined us.

You are in for a really great adventure getting your own flock. Their needs are different than other pets, but they are less trouble than most.

I do envy your building expertise, but had the help of a friend (retired builder) to accomplish my coop and another with experience to expand the run.

Do visit the Learning Center and Coops forums for helpful info and ideas

And I would recommend starting with baby chicks, would not have missed a minute of those early days.

Sourland has pointed you in the right direction...the Learning Center is a great place to get started. The Search box in the upper left (under the logo) will help you find information. And of course, feel free to ask questions.

Good luck with all your plans and thanks for joining us!

Welcome to the Backyard chickens flock. It's a very good idea to check out the predator threads as well - know the enemy, and their usual mo.

Hi and welcome to BYC. You have some great advice from other members, so I'll just say hello and wish you all the best with your impending chicken adventure!

Cheers
