We are moving to a new property and I am lucky enough to be able to design and build my new chicken coop and duck houses. I have a brooder room in my chicken coop to make introducing new flock members easier. Would it be wise to do the same thing for the ducks? I haven't had enough ducks for it to be an issue in the past, but I have 29 babies brooding in my garage and I was wondering if it would be better for them to brood separate but in sight of the adults? Thanks everyone!

If you can keep the ducklings warm enough, it would be a good idea to brood them where the adults can see/hear them, but not have access. I've read that this will help everyone be comfortable when it comes to the physical introductions later.

and welcome to BYC!

Thanks! The duck house is going to have electric just in case, so it shouldn't be a problem to have a heat lamp or two. In theory, my muscovies will hatch and brood ducklings....but I want to be prepared.

Here is a pic of some of my adults back in October as teenagers:

Yes, I've had khakis for 2 years and the scovies last fall. I am finally going to have room for lots more, so I jumped into runners and Rouens too lol.

I'm not sure. I said I was only going to get 5 more this year, lol. I anticipate having some really big problems with predators at our new place for a while because no one has been living there for two years. I am going to wait and see what happens before we get any more though. :)
