My chicks are getting really big. They are fully feathered except a few patches on their heads. I have 6 bo, 4 rr and 4bs. They all turned a month old today. They are getting too big for my indoor area and their coop with be finished this weekend minus the run. They haven't been under the heat lamp for nearly a week. I am in South Ga. Would it be safe to put them in the coop this weekend without a heat lamp? I have the heat lamp on my ducklings now and I'd rather not have two running at once. Also, at what age would it be safe for my ducklings to go outside? They are a week old and growing way faster than I thought they would.
 
I'd suggest that acclimatising your chicks is the best way to go. Put them outside for 20 mins or so and observe their behaviour - as long as they are not huddled together then they are fine. Keep doing this, but increasing the duration each time. I'll let others with more experience than myself on the topic and knowledge of your climate comment on the heating lamp issue.

Make them a 'huddle box', put it in the brooder after turning off the heat(you might have to 'persuade' them to use it) then move it out to the coop with them.
Cardboard box with a bottom a little bigger than what they need to cuddle next to each other without piling and tall enough for them to stand in.
Cut an opening on one side a couple inches from bottom and big enough for 2-3 of them to go thru at once.
Fill the bottom with some pine shavings an inch or so deep.
This will give them a cozy place to sleep/rest, block any drafts and help hold their body heat in.
 
We took them out Sunday evening to peck around and they did great. It's not getting cool enough for us to run the heat at night. Some nights it's about 50ish. Other's it's a bit higher. Not much lower though.
