I thought it would be a good idea to have the anatomy of chickens and eggs available to help some of those new to chickens be able to identify and describe things.

Actually any of us that raise chickens should know the proper terms for their anatomy.

Hope this is helpful to everyone.

Please note that there is no brain labeled on the chicken! I know that you just found these pictures somewhere but I think it is interesting that they left that out.

I am pretty sure they store grit in the crop but dont hold me to that!

I do have a detailed drawing of the brain I just didn't include it. It seemed like a waste of space and bandwidth. LOL

Miss Prissy, I wouldn't think a diagram of a chicken brain would take much bandwidth, space or even much ink to draw... I mean there are only two sections - the bug catching part and the grape-detecting part.

I would have to agree with Buff Hooligans! LOL I just find it interesting that they labeled the eye and have space to point to the brain but chose not to.

Grit is stored in the gizzard. It is used by the gizzard to break down food such as corn or grains so it is digestible. The gizzard is essentially a large muscle that uses the grit to grind food.
