I am new to this forum, and new to getting chickens. My husband and I live in Longmont. We have two young children, so we want chickens that are friendly, and enjoy being held. Any recommendations for specific breeds that do well in our climate? Also, does anyone have any local farms/stores that they would recommend for getting the chicks? We are hoping to get week old chicks so that they are more viable than 1 day old chicks. Also, do you all recommend using Apple Cider Vinegar to help with immune system and constipation? A friend who has chickens herself uses this.
Thank you for your advice and help.

Is that Longmont, CO?
If so, you might post here for local information.

You can use raw ACV but IMHO, it doesn't do a lot. Preferable would be a good avian probiotic powder in water or feed.

Baby chicks are pretty tough but I understand wanting them a week old.
Farm and home type stores like TSC usually always have chicks this time of year.

For breeds, I recommend these 2 breed charts.
