Today is day 17 and one baby hatched this morning. No one else has pipped. Is there any chance we'll have any other chicks show up?
Thank You.

If they don't watch within 24 hours of the first chick I suggest very carefully opening the eggs from the large end. I've saved several that were "breeched" or "shrink-wrapped" that way, they grew up just fine. I've never had any hatch on their own more than 24 hours after the first chick hatched. They seem to all pop out like clockwork around 17 days 12 hours with a few hatching slightly early.

even if they don't pipe out of egg?

I recently hatched my first coturnix. The first hatched right at 17 days. The last hatched day 19/20.

They seemed to hatch in batches of 2 to 3 at a time. I left them alone and let them do their thing. They would pip and stay that way for hours before deciding to zip and hatch.

It was really hard not to intervene. Particularly when one died mid hatch. Overall I ended up with 19 out of 21 hatching successfully. It was slow and definitely not the "pop all at once" experience that I was expecting.

Let us know how it goes!

I had 30 eggs out of that 14 hatched was decent I have SEVERAL eggs pipe and actally not zip I took the advise of the post
I only intervened after 48 hours. Several had piped and I let them sit there 2 long the 2 that were alive when I intervened they are well and doing fine total I only had 9 eggs not pipe at all so six or seven piped and never hatched..... that s how my hatch went

Thats a success. And now everytime you do more you'll have better and better results my best hatch was 120 eggs and 115 hatched. I will never do that many again i live in the city and it turned into work and not enjoyment. But congrats on being quail parents if you need any help just holler.

We've been hatching for the past 3 years, and have had them come out (in the same batch even) anywhere between 16-20 days. No matter when the first ones pip, I leave all unpipped eggs in until the end of day 20. As a previous post mentioned, sometimes they pop and can't get out, so I try to keep an eye on those and intervene on rare occasion... I do make sure to do "eggtopsies" after the hatching is done just to see what happened to the unhatched eggs, can tell a lot based on where in the development they stopped.

One of my best layers never pipped and I carefully opened the egg the day after the rest had hatched and found her breeched. Once freed she never looked back. She sometimes lays 2 eggs or a huge double-yolker per day. She's the primary reason I open all unhatched eggs now.

Most of my quail chicks never pip- they just zip and pop out seconds. The few that pip and just sit there for hours often seem small and weak or die early on.
