But I know what you mean, I'm always able to tell. From the moment I got my 2 chicks I thought Joel was stockier and funny looking compared to all my other chicks I've received, and that it was weird that by 6 weeks Jelly was covered in feathers and Joel was only halfway there. I could tell. And it isn't an accurate way, but chickens can look boy or girlish. x3
No theres not that much info on them, and the most confusing thing is people call them so many different names that sometimes people think they're different birds. For years I waited for my feed store to get 'red stars 'and all they kept getting was something called a 'Golden Comet' (which is another nickname for GSL). After abut 2 years I finally looked into GSL & found out that they ARE Red Stars & Golden Comets! Which is where they're names I named them came from, I named them Luna, Star & Comet. I named star after the nickname for them 'Red Star', Comet after 'Golden Comet' and Luna because I named the other 2 space names and she had lots of white on her so, Luna!
I was wrong about what I said the GSL was, It's a 'Cherry Egger' (which looks JUST like a RIR) male & Rhode island white female. Sorry about that!

Even though there's not much info on them, I do know that Production wise, they're the best bird I've ever had! Although it did take them awhile to start laying impressively (it might've been because it got really cold though right around the time they just started to lay) but it was worth the wait! I get 2 eggs a day from each bird and the eggs are HUGE! they're so big they don't fit all the way in the slot in the carton! Great birds!!!
Oh, one more warning, I was reading on them when I first got them and someone said GSL can JUMP! high. I thought it might not be true but oh it is! They've never cleared a fence or anything but I like to let them out and let them follow me to get the food for them, I fill up the coffe can, and go back to the coop to put it in their trough for them. Well every time I do they jump so high in one go rhat they always land on my back or head. and i'm 5'6 so it's not like i'm short or anything. And when I open the door to the coop they come flying out, They must time it. I've learned to open the latch and swing the door open and jump out of the way or get clawed by a hungry chicken!
(They're not being mean though, they just like to jump out the door) Now they're awesome birds! but I figured 'd warn you.
