Hi there, I'm new at raising chickens, I have 6 chicks that are now two weeks old. They seem content in their little brooder in my spare bedroom, they're growing fast

I want to start giving them some treats, but I've read so many contradictory opinions that it's hard to know what the right thing to do is.
I have some organic kale that survived the winter and it's looking beautiful and I would like to share some with them......what to do??

You can give your chicks a little kale for a treat, just be sure they have grit available to help them digest it. Treats should be limited to no more than 10% of their daily intake so they don't fill up on "junk" and ignore their nutritionally balanced feed.

Have fun with your little ones!

Hi and welcome to BYC - glad that you have joined us.

The Learning Centre is a great resource, even for experienced chicken keepers - loads of info on anything chicken. https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

Joining your state thread will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area, which can be helpful (just type the name of your state in the search box).

All the best

OMG babiez!!

I have 5 week old chicks and have started giving them some mealworms. They love the little squirmers and to play chase with each other. I also give them a "baby cakes" log to have something to peck on and roost on as well. They aren't as excited about that as they are the meal worms.

Happy chicking!
