My late father had plastic containers and oatmeal boxes and sacks of all sorts of flower seeds that I brought back home with me. Since I don't know what most of them are, I've planted them or scattered seeds in the meadow to maybe come up and give me some color this spring/summer. BUT, I found these in an old oats box and I know he used to call them sand dollars like the sea urchins, but I know that can't be the real name of them because I cannot find any photos of the plant looking it up by that name. Any ideas? I was trying to recall how large it grew so I could guess where to plant them around here.

Speckledhen: I'm so sorry that you lost your dad. Sounds like you have many fond memories, those flowers will help!

Thank you. Dad was a true farmer. I have daylilies and roses and a snowball bush and azaleas and all sorts of other bulbs here that came from him and before that, his father's farm. My sister and I are trying to sell his house now and if they see it in full bloom, they'll pounce on it. It has literally millions of flowering bulbs and roses and shrubs and all kinds of things. I laughed when I found an envelope of seeds with his handwriting, "What are these??" Haha.

Glad to help Cynthia. I could say because it was you I spent a lot of time looking but I’ll admit I got lucky on my first google.

Memories like that do help. My wife lost her father last year. A few things made it down here. I’m not complaining. Her grandfather bred iris. When he died and that place was sold no one thought to save any of his creations. Now they are lost forever. Good luck with that plant.

I tried and tried and tried to search on Bing but I was having zero luck so I knew someone would know here. Some days you almost have to know the answer you're looking for before you can find the answer you're looking for on the search engines. This was one of those days for me, I guess. Anyway, problem solved, now to decide where to plant them.

I have Dutch Iris and regular bearded iris that my dad gave me, too, some years ago. I love iris (or is it irises? I can never remember).

Beware. I think those silver dollars (or what ever they are called) are invasive. I know the Japanese lanterns are.
They probably are, from what I've been reading. I am considering not planting them but will leave it up to DH. It would be out in the pasture area and they'd be mowed down when he cuts the grass periodically, but still... I believe most of the seeds Dad had were annuals, with a few perennials like monkey grass.
