Hi everyone! I don't have my chicks yet, but am getting them next week, buff Orpingtons and barred rocks, I can't wait! I just wanted to join to have a support system for any questions I might have ( I'm sure they'll be many!) I'm so happy to find a community out there for us chicken lovers! Such a relief that I don't have to figure this stuff out alone!

I'm glad you decided to join us!! To find lots of information on your new chicks, you should check out the learning center, it has info on pretty much everything.
 
Welcome to the BYC flock. You may also want to know what is going on around you. Put your state name in the search box and your state thread will pop up. You can post there and see if any chickeners live near you.

Thank you everyone! I finally got my chicks, I wound up getting all buff Orpingtons, (6), and just set them up, all looks good so far, they are checking out their new digs, I happened to notice some of them panting, I placed my hand in brooder and it really doesn't seem too warm, just pleasantly warm, do they sometimes pant when they are anxious?
 
Thanks! I only have the light on one side so they have the other side to cool off if needed, thank you!! It's so nice to have all of you to talk to!!
