Silkie Gender Guesses

To me, it looks like you still have a bunch of hens, Although in the third to last pic it kind of looks like that white one in the back's crest is sweeped back a bit. From this point on watch for streamers off their crests, and check their saddle and hackle feathers to see if they're pointed. That's at least what I do for mine. If you have any males they should start crowing soon also, so you will know soon enough. Thanks so much for these pictures! They have grown so much! My best guess is you probably will end up with more hens than roos. I sure hope so for you! I like their new henhouse, nice!!!,

I think 1 of the whites (maybe both-i can't tell if those are streamers on the one on the roost) and the grey one have a cockerel look to them. Comb pics and profile shots would help. They're very beautiful birds. I especially love the black partridge.

Ashtree you seem to really know a lot about sexing silkies, would you mind taking a look at my silkies? I have made a thread for them called, "Calling all Silkie Experts!" I would really appreciate it if you would. Lauren, these are BEAUTIFUL silkies, may I ask where you got them? Thanks!

I did. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Straight combs aren't easy!

Thank you!! I got them from a local woman I found on a FB chicken page, "central Indiana chickens" I don't know if she ships them out but she did just start hatching out blacks and buff silkies so I can't wait to get some! I think she is a backyard chicken raiser as well, such a sweet lady! If you want more info I'll send you her name and #

Not sure where you are from though but if you're close to Indy she is awesome!

Wow, she sounds awesome! As much as I would love to get some I have got way to many chicks this year as it is. And it always seems way to many Roosters. This year I got 5 Silkie chicks from a feed store near me, they are just hatchery Quality not SQ, but they are actually fluffing up nice, besides two of them having single combs they appear to be of pretty okay quality, better than I expected. Yours appear to be of VERY good quality and they are beautiful babies! Then we have some chicks that will be our laying hens. All so very cute! I feel like I could of have dozens upon dozens of silkies! They are my favorite breed, them and OEGBs. I love my little fluffy puffs!
