So, I'm Sam. Been coming to BYC for a few years now, and love reading some of the things here so finally decided to join in on the chicky fun! My family and I have been "chicken-ing" for about 3 years now. We've made mistakes and learned from them, Sadly we lost many of our flock to foxes and being scared to death from the foxes coming into the yard. =( but we made improvements and have been predator-ily safe for 2 of our 3 years! Our current flock consists of 8 RIR's and 4 Indian Runners, & we just adpoted a Brahma Rooster. I have more work to do on my birds' hut, but would love to get a large variety of layers, and am at the stage in my "Mother Henning" where I would like to begin breeding, so to continue my flock I don't have to go out and buy every time. . .

We too sadly had to learn the hard way. That sounds like an awesome flock you have!

Please check out the predator threads for advice on keeping fox, etc. away. Are you able to use electric fencing in your area?
