Is it normal for hens to lose some feathers when the temps start to warm up? I'm in New England and we are just getting into spring. Today I found these larger feathers in the run. (Usually I only see the occasional fluffy small tufty in the coop). The larger size in the picture is about 7". They have good protein in their diet and are free ranging plenty of worms. They were both together in the area they like to groom in. Any ideas? I'm wondering if one pulled them out but what would the point be if they're too large to eat?

They do lose feathers here and there. Some will actually go through a neck molt, and I had a broody hen do a partial molt after I broke her. So nothing to worry about.
