EMERGENCY VENT ISSUE

Hi, I've a hen with, what looks like, an introverted vent. I've tried to push it back in
with no luck. Any suggestions at all would be a help. Photo attached. Thank you!!

She has a prolapsed vent. Possibly from a lodged egg (egg bound). Check to see if there is an egg lodged. You will see her straining and the vent may feel hard as the egg may be felt through the tissue. Type this into the advanced search box at the top of this page, "egg bound hen" and "prolapsed vent".

If she is not straining she may have laid the egg. Clean the vent area well, use antibiotic cream, and Preparation H to reduce swelling. Keep her in the dark. This will keep her calm and unmoving. The prolapse may retract on its own. Last month I saved a hen by doing this.
However many hen die. Doesn't hurt to try. Good luck.
