Some evil critter attacked my hen Big Foot. She has a gnarly gash on the underside of her neck. I cleaned it up, put a ton of neosporin in the gash, and wrapped it up. She is walking around (gingerly. I think she's sore) and is interested in food and water. Trouble is, whenever she tries to bend forward to peck at food, she seems unsure of how to do so with the bandage on. It's like messing with her balance. Any advice on how to wrap a bandage so a healing chicken can do her normal chicken things normally :) she seems eager to to so, but I don't want to expose her wound bc it is pretty bad.

I think she will get it in due time. Just make sure any ointment you use has NO painkiller in it. Chickens react badly to ointments with pain killer in them.

You can use non sticky gauze and vet wrap just keep the bandage loose so it does not restrict the neck movement. (or cut off circulation of course)

She may have some additional injuries that are not visable. Have you isolated her so you can keep a close eye on her? If she is isolated then perhaps if she is having issues while the bandage is on it could come off.
How deep is the wound?
