Hello! New Mom to a sweet "Cross-beak"

How's sweet little Cleo been doing? I think about her all the time and I hope she is doing good.

Hi, Lil Peeps! Thanks for thinking of Cleo!

Here's a picture of her, enjoying some sunshine.

She is such a sweet-natured, gentle little thing! Every morning when I bring her special food out, she flies up and perches on my my wrist. She feels as light as a parakeet! She likes to sit on my hand and scoop her food up, even before I set it down. (Her lower beak could probably use a little trim, but I haven't gotten the nerve up to do it yet. lol) She's getting along with the other birds pretty well, although every now and then my young rooster gets in a good peck. :-( Usually she is running circles around everyone. She is so fast, my husband calls her The Sandpiper. Mostly she just follows her friend Peachy around the yard. However, the other night, when I went out to close the coop up, who was she snuggled up to? Not Peachy, but the rooster! (Go figure!) I sure hope that when his hormones start kicking in, that she can stay out of his way---she's so very tiny!! I'm hoping he won't even be interested in her- he's got plenty of other plump girls to choose from. lol Here is a picture of Cleo next to one of her sisters. They were hatched on the same day, and look how small she is!

Anyhow, she is really such a joy, and even my husband has fallen in love with her. Totally worth the extra attention she needs. Thanks for checking in with her! I hope everyone in your flock is doing well!!!

Oh good! I'm so glad she is still doing so well! And she has grown up so much! But still just SO CUTE!!! I know she must be your little baby being so cute, gentle and just her amazing little self. And I know she must have the cutest personality and from all the amazing and cute stories you share about her I feel as if I already know her! And oh my goodness she is tiny! Poor little girl! She is definitely so lucky to have you looking after her and loving her for who she is. I know cross beaks take a little extra work, but I can tell you that Cleo is so grateful to you for doing that for her. And If your rooster does start to be overwhelming for her I would just suggest building her a little coop of her own. Either right beside your big coop so she can see the other chickens and not get lonely, or make it anywhere else safe and then include her best friend Peachy in her little house with her. Just so that Cleo doesn't have to worry about being chased around and wasting food and energy that could go to getting her even stronger and putting some more meat on her bones. Because I know scissorbeak always need all the food and energy they can get. And I so love how you worded that, 'she is totally worth the extra attention she needs. ' She is so precious and I know you know she is worth more than gold, a priceless treasure! I will continue to think about and pray for your sweet, special, precious little girl! I wish you and her only the very best! And also thanks for asking about my flock, they all are doing very well! Very healthy and still laying despite the hot summer sun.

Oh well, never mind! I just remembered you telling me before that She was in a sectioned off part of the coop by herself so the other chickens couldn't bully her. So you already have the separating part handled. And btw thanks so much for sharing those pictures of Cleo! Whenever you have time I know we would all love to see some extra pictures of you little girl! I know I really appreciate all the pictures and heart-felt stories you share about precious little Cleo. Thank you so much for those and I hope to hear lots more in the future!
