Hey everyone,
Looking for some advice, I bought a brinsea advance 20 incubator turner and humidity pump from a guy who use to breed chickens he quit and gave up hatching for people so he decided to sell it. I got it it worked great ran it twice with no eggs so I put 24 barred rocks in the humidity was at 44-45 % during the trial runs soon as I added eggs eggs for my first hatch it would go over 38% with the pump for 18 hours no matter how constant the pump ran but if I added a little to the incubator it jumped to 55 % I'd take the water back out of the incubator it came back down to 38% and the pump would kick on. The next day it went up to 45% and has stayed there since. Is it possible that it was air locked ? Looking for some help.

Thanks

Yes that is possible. You need to prime the tubing with water before you wrap it round the pump. I find if you suck the water through the tube then nip it on the end. Wrap the tubing round the pump then connect it to the rigid tube that goes into the incubator. It will drain back slightly when the pump is not running but nothing that cause hassle. Also make sure your rigid tube is touching the evaporation pad that's in the incubator. Also if your tubing has got a little stretched that can cause it to not pump enough water through. I replace the tubing if it's not tight enough.

Thank you very much, I will keep that in mind for the next time. It seems to have picked up its prime and is staying at forty five, it's working there is water in the tube and if it drops to forty four then it kicks on and goes up straight from there. I will keep your advice for next time I start in the spring, I'll be hatching from now on the next serval months back to back so hopefully it stay running as it is now. Thank you again.

That's great news :highfive: So pleased you have it sorted out and it's working well. I've just set mine up again ready for eggs to be set again tomorrow.

Good luck with your hatches :fl

Just thought I would post an update, even though I started out with about 10 hours of crappy humidity the little brinsea came through, I couldn't be more please with the way my hatch went. 15 barred rocks out of 17 eggs.
