OK, I've been reading about treating, medicating, and dressing bumblefoot. That's fine, I can do all of that care BUT bad Mikey has no scab or entry wound that I can find. His ouch is on his "thumb" the big joint of the most inside toe. My question is, do I lance it and drain it at its current state or if I wait until it has gotten bigger and started to drain on its own am I asking for more problems? I figure he has done something to develop it because of his pacing, stubbed his foot or whatever. Once healed, does swimming in clean water help them from developing it? The used to have a small stock tub but I stole it when I had ducklings to raise. They currently have "floating" boxes that are deep enough for them to float in and maybe paddle a little but more often they wade in them. I try to change the water every few days - ducks love them better when they are clean.

I always wondered what duck and chicken shoes were for, I guess now I know.

Our pekin had a 'bumblefoot' like sore on her foot, and it turned out to be a burn wound from stepping on some hot sheet of metal that was left out in the sun. There wasn't an entry wound, and there was healthy skin under the outer layer. I'd keep an eye on it - you could try antibiotics but I'd wait on someone else's advice for that.

I would avoid lancing. The pus is usually chunky so it would not drain, and opening a duck's foot is risky

I would apply Epsom salt compresses, follow with antibiotic ointment - no painkiller - twice a day especially right before bedtime.

Promised photos. He had just been 30 minutes wading/swimming in warm water in the tub. Once the dirt was off I got a surprise.

Right Foot:
Far right toe is the one that I had discovered earlier. By this morning it had gotten a small dot and was much harder and didn't feel like I could have drained it. I noticed the other two toes have calluses (I think) but maybe the remnants of sores?

Left Foot:
He has some type of penetrating callus on his heal. No puss, no pain that I can find. His back toe has an odd pad, but this is the one he pulled out about 4 months ago. It seems to be growing back.

To top off the indignity of being turned upside down for photos, silly Mikey hurt his bill when he was in the wire dog crate while his feet were drying. He jumped up and trust his bill through the wires on the top, then when he realized he was stuck he pushed against the side with his feet and tweaked it even worse. I was a few feet away and turned and approached so he quit pushing and dropped right down. Dumb duck. He has a scuff on his bill from the bottom of one nostril to the top of the other. It must have been quite painful but I don't see any real damage. He is in the plastic dog crate now. I will turn him out only after his bill seems OK.
