Hi!

I'm completely new to this great world of chickens. A friends son hatched chickens in class. They were all different colors. He picked only black ones. They are now 1.5 weeks old. I have no idea what kind they are. From research maybe black sex linked? Would love some thoughts/help. They are super playful and incredibly friendly. This is them sunbathing today.

Glad you could join us here!! What cute chicks you have there. When they are a few more weeks o,dear you could post some pics in the what breed gender section. Here is the link ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/15/what-breed-or-gender-is-this

Welcome to byc and to the world of chickens. They do look like black sex links to me too. One thing good about them you can tell the males from the females right away. If they have white on their heads they are boys and if they have a solid black head they are girls. From the pics it looks like you have two girls and a boy. They are very cute chicks.

Thank you! One thing I have noticed is that their wings are changing colors. 2 seem to be getting stripes. Is that normal? I thought if they were barred they would show stripes right away?

Barring isn't present at hatch, I noticed one looks to be getting barring. When they are 6-8 weeks old you can post photos of them at "what breed or gender is this?"

I had two males and they both had the black and white bars as they got older. I didn't have any females so I can't tell you about that.
