My name is Lacey. I had chickens when I was younger in 4-h. Did everything from breeding, hatching and ahowing. Got married, convinced my husband to move back to the country (hate city life) so I could have my horses outside instead of boarding. Coming on 6 months and we are slowly getting g everything together. Currently have 6 (4 to 6 week) pullets. All a different kind. My husband caught the chicken fever and so we are getting more, looking for unique looking with colored eggs. Any suggestion welcome. Thanks!

Hi Lacy welcome to the BYC great place to be for any question chicken . your first question is a tough one . eggs come in such variety of colors dark brown to near black . blue green pink there are just so many to chose from . read the breed reviews and look at the color of eggs you want. then look at the breeds those color come from. If you are limited on space then be slow to make your selections. shoot for quality chickens that are the type and lay the colors you want. I gave one of my customers some of my blue eggs from my Ameraucana hens . weeks later she show me one of the eggs shells and said she was going to paint her new kitchen that color . get what you want from the start . good luck

Six is a good number to start with. Watch out for chicken math as it does this: 6 x 6 =92.
