Breed/Gender assistance please.

Hi all, DD and I picked this chick up from our local feed store pullet bin around 5 weeks ago. We were told it was a white Plymouth Rock by staff and posted on BYC last week inquiring about gender. Some have said it is not a white PR at all so naturally we are curious as to what breed we have as well as gender. Any info. would be greatly appreciated :). Thank you in advance!

I looked on mypetchicken to see if I could figure it out.
I would guess leghorn
I am going to go search a few other places and see what I find.
 
Ok, I think you stated that she is 5 weeks?
Look up amber link. Amber links is a possibility! The chicks stay white till around 8-9 weeks then apparently hens will get some brown to them.
 
It is not an Amber Link, or any such hybrid, as it does not have a fawn blush on the back or wings.

Some of the photos look suspiciously like a Cornish Cross meat bird as the legs and chest are very large...could be photo angle.

But, if it is growing very quickly, getting much larger than the other chicks, you have a Cornish Cross.

Otherwise, it is earlobe color....red earlobe will indicate a White Rock (which can get a heavier frame as they are dual purpose birds) vs. white earlobe for a White Leghorn.

As Leghorns are lighter weight birds, the basic body looks more like a Rock or a Cornish Cross...but right now I am seeing white earlobes.

I suspicion it may be a Cornish Cross.

Is it growing very quickly?

If it is average size in real life, it is probably a White Leghorn.

Comb indicates pullet as of 5 weeks of age.


Of those breeds mentioned, males would have begun to develop substantial comb with red beginning to creep in.

THANK YOU @Lady of McCamley for all of the invaluable information you provided! THANK YOU @drumstick diva for chiming in and adding another vote to the suspected Cornish Cross. I think that's probably what I have. It was given to us along with a BR and RIR and we were told it was a white Plymouth Rock. Rocks would've had grey n yellow down, right? It looks much different than my leghorn did as it is huskier with long, thick legs. Someone suggested white Orpington but these came from Belt Hatchery and I don't think they carry those. Photos online of Cornish Cross seem to match her perfectly however she is not much bigger than the others in her age bracket. :idunno. So confused!

Yellow legs...not Orpington as they have white/pink skin.

Since it came from feed store and hatchery, it could be a mixed breed with some Cornish Cross in it, but not all Cornish Cross.

Also, Cornish Crosses grow according to the amount of protein given them. If you limit that, and their overall intake, they can grow more slowly.

Since this chick has not taken off in growth substantially, it leads me to believe it is a mixture with a Cornish Cross but not a true Cornish Cross.

If it is Cornish Cross, its growth will take off exponentially very shortly.

Cornish Cross do take a bit of care otherwise they'll eat themselves into weight oblivion and have numerous health problems.

Hopefully it is just hatchery non-standard Rock or a mix of a mix....white ear lobes tell me Leghorn, but that wide chest and long legs indicate Cornish in the background.
