I've noticed this for about a week. Every 2 or 3 days I find an egg on the ground or in the roost along with an egg white and soft egg shell a few feet away. No one is acting ill. My first job will be to identify which hen is doing this. The yolk from the soft egg is inside her. I know I can find on the forum how to check her inside, but will someone explain here? What is going on with her? thanks so much.

Sounds like your hens, one in particular, are not getting enough calcium. I have heard that one of the best sources of calcium is to feed the chickens back their shells. Cook the shell (one I saw microwaved hers) then break it into a powder and offer it to your birds in a seperate dish.

Thanks, they do get their shells and are free range. I'll look into how to supplement more.....

I could be mistaken, but i doubt the yolk is inside the hen. More likely the hen made an egg without a yolk. It happens occasionally, I sometimes find eggs without yolks too. I do not know why it happens so frequently with you. Is it possible one of your hens is not getting enough food? Maybe one of them lower in the pecking order?

1. I will watch to see who it is.
2. Pay attention to the pecking order. Nasty little order....
3. The feeder is available 24/7 and they are in and out of the coop all day.
4. I feed corn and sunflower seed in addition to laying crumbles, kitchen waste including their shells.

Thanks again!
