@oldhenlikesdogs That very likely could have happened! If one egg bumps up against another does that mean that the hen could lay 2 eggs withing a 24 hour period or does it just stay in there longer?
@azygous Haha....that is so funny. It's true too, they act like nothing is out of the ordinary!If you keeps chickens long enough, you'll see every hideous, indescribable thing imaginable left in nest boxes and under perches.
And the darlings act as though they know absolutely nothing about it.
Some high production hens can lay two eggs during a 24 hour period. Most times when multiple yolks are released they become one egg with two yolks, it can depends how much time is passed between them. Your egg was probably about to be laid when the next egg came down into the shell gland and stuck to the current one, which pulled it out with it instead of it staying behind to have a shell added. The egg spend about 24 hours out of the 26 hours it takes to produce it in the shell gland getting a shell. Any disturbances can affect that egg. It's an amazing system that produces eggs, so I'm surprised how often they are normal.
Very interesting. There was the clear part of the egg inside of the attachment. I will see if I get any "different" looking eggs today to see if it affected the next egg!
