Hi everyone. I just got 2 cayuga ducklings in via mail order. One male and the other female. The male seems to have fuzz missing from one of its wings. I want to clean it in the safest way possible without hurting or causing more damage to the little dude. We have 3 other older ducklings already. An Ancona,Rouen and a blue I got from a local farm store about four weeks back. All nice and healthy. I started looking online and I found these Cayugas and fell in love with them. So I ordered these two.

Here is the wing. It doesn't seem to slow him down. But I still wanted to ask more experienced duck owners what they thought.

You should definitely make a complaint to the hatchery, I've never seen anything like this before, I wish I could help. :(

Thank you.

I emailed them a pic and ask them what I should do and if I should be concerned about it. He said exactly this. (I'd just clean the wing up and I'm guessing it'll be fine. Have a great day!) kind of rubbed me the wrong way. I generally care about these little dudes and it seems like that guy couldn't give a flying duck.

Duck is likely going to be fine, it looks like a minor abrasion. Clean with Vetericyn and keep an eye on it.

Cayugas don't fly, so I can somewhat understand his response. Unless you purchased show quality ducklings, I wouldn't expect much more from them.

Thank you very much. This was very helpful. And yes Cayugas don't fly and they are definitely not show ducks but I expected just a little bit more info from them. Kind of like the info you gave me. Now I know what to clean it with.
