I had a chick pip this morning about 2:00 there has been no change. It has been moving a little bit and peeping( so precious). I don't think it can break the membranes. The other four have shown no signs of hatching. I candled them right before lockdown and there was a chick in all of them. When will they hatch? How should I help the one that did pip? Is it possible that the egg shell is to thick for a chick to break through? Thanks

It's quite common for birds to pip and then take a 24 hour nap before they zip, others pip and zip with no break, so at this point I would simply relax... Also pipping of the other eggs in a clutch can easily be spread out over 24 hours, give them time and relax some more...

Thank you if they have not pipped in 24 hours what should i do?

It can take a while sometimes. Its possible they can't break the shell, or that they grew to big and can't turn inside to peck out. Also could hatch late. I've had chicks hatch as much as 4 days late.

Not much you can do. If you hatch them early they could bleed out if they haven't sealed up their belly button yet. Also they generally develop crocked toes if they don't hatch on their own. I'd just let them go and see what happens personally.

Generally if they are too weak to break the shell, it's best to let nature run it's course, IMO...

Way to many people IMO get overly anxious and force the assisted hatch, it should really be a last resort...

There are plenty of good articles about assisted hatching on this forum and in a Google search, you have about 12 hours to read up before I personally would even consider helping the one that pipped already...

Also all the eggs have light colored streaks on them that were not there a few days ago. I noticed as the egg that pipped moved it got more streaks. What are they? You may be able to see the streaks in the picture

That's so precious.. this is my first year tryi.trying to hatch and I'm doing something wrong.. it's so heartbreaking :,( a week after hatch I cracked one open to see if it even formed and it had.. I cried.. I'm trying another batch now but I don't think there gonna hatch :( I don't think I'm cut out for it. But congratulations, it's beautiful
