So as my luck would have it one of the ducklings I got from Metzer has a deformed beak. The bottom looks normal, the top is stunted and she has closed nostrils. She drinks and eats (but much less than the others). I have been making her a mash to help her swallow her food but she constantly sneezes and now has a clicking noise when she tries to breath through her nostrils. I'm concerned that regardless she is destined to get an upper respiratory infection.

Any ideas, success stories of other ducklings with underbites?

I'm not sure about dosages, hopefully someone else can answer that, but I'm sorry to hear about your duckling :( I have a duck that has a deformed bill but thankfully it's not deformed in a way that hinders her very much.

Make sure she can submerge her bill all the way under water to remove any food/mucus that clogs her nostrils. Also make sure she doesn't overheat. I know with my duck she can sometimes get easily hot (I think it's kind of like dogs with smushed snouts, like pugs, can overheat easily). I just make sure she drinks and bathes enough to keep cool.

The clicking sound is somewhat concerning. I had a duck that got pneumonia and he was making a clicking noise.

Thanks for the response. She has underdeveloped nostrils so there aren't really any holes for her to clear. I'm hoping the clicking is just her attempts to clear the nostrils she doesn't have.

Oh poor little thing. She us lucky to have you

She is still doing well. She is eating and drinking but weighs considerably less than the other two she came with. I gave her a drop of Nutridrench today so here is to hoping she does well!

My only concerns are her sneezing and clicking at times when breathing although those seem to mostly be correlated with her drinking. She seems to be quieter when sleeping and eating.
