Last Monday 5/16 we welcomed our 1st chick, followed by our 2nd chick on Wed. 5/18.
As a newbie chicken mom, I was a nervous/anxious momma. After asking lots of questions, reading lots of books and researching lots of posts/websites....I finally relaxed.
Yesterday momma and chicks left the coop for a brief outing, as we supervised.
For the past few days our other hen walked around the outside of the coop, cooing and chattering, not wanting to go inside. We were concerned our the hens would get along.
Today momma and chicks wandered around our 5 acre property, even going under the house. Our other hen Dottie stayed about a foot away at all times, chattering like she was the protective rooster. After about 30 minutes, Momma, chicks and Dottie were all exploring the grounds without an issue.
After about 2-3 hours of exploring momma brought the babies back to the coop and the other hen went on her way to explore some more.
