Saxony Duck Thread!

I have a question for all those who have raised their Saxony from ducklings.

Do the drakes at 5 weeks still have a prominent white eye stripe? I guess I’m trying to say do both drakes & ducks look the same until going from their 1st feathers until adult feathers?

Yes, they do. The drakes tend to have much darker color on the front of the body though.

Well I’m going to call myself extremely fortunate that my 2 almost 8 week olds both appeared to have passed their quack test.
The large white Pekin hatch mate sported a slight eye stripe and some point colors when duckling but was all white by 5 weeks. He of course is a drake and will be rehomed into the 4-H program soon.
I’d named the Saxony pair Hansel and Gretel . Now we’ll be looking at a Heidi and Gretel i expect.

This is my 5 week old Saxony (yet to be named) would you say the chest is dark?
I’m sooo impatient and it feels like eternity until I can do the quack test. Currently only getting peeps still.

Hello, not sure how these long threads work but can some of the saxony owners/lovers comment on how loud they are? Thinking about getting 2-3 of these and mixing with 2-3 Muscovy, but want to make sure they are indeed as docile and quiet as the breeders make them out to be.

I have Saxony and WH. The Saxony are generally pretty quiet except when they get excited, like by treats or newly filled water tubs. They're way quieter than the WH, that's for sure.

I have two Saxony. They lay giant eggs.
