We have a flock of seven chickens, and we already have a coop for them. How big should their run be? I was thinking 10x20. Is that enough? They are standard size, not bantam.

10'x20' run for 7 chickens ? plenty of space :)

for run space 4-10 sq ft per bird should be sufficient.

i have 5 chickens and their run is only 4'x8' but i'll let them out to free range in my yard for about 1 hour or so each day

so you are providing plenty of space for you chickens :) They should be ok in that run 24/7

Generally, the more space you can provide for your flock, the better. You may want to consider chicken maths - its gets us all in the end! Having a couple of feeding stations will reduce tensions also.

You should be A-ok for the number of chickens you have. I have 25 and my attached run is 10'X25' which is only slightly larger than yours. But like CTKen said, please take chicken math into account. I didn't and I'm currently in the process of building a 5-bay coop and run that'll dwarf my current setup, and I'm not kidding either. Actually I'm building it for breeding, but gosh, not even a year ago I thought all I wanted was a couple of chickens for manure for my gardens and maybe a couple of eggs and some shake-n-bake once in awhile. Chicken math is a very real and dangerous disease that's worse than the crack epidemic in the 80's.

Pardon my ignorance...but what is chicken maths????
What wattles99 said. It's hard to be satisfied with what you have and you'll likely want more when you find out how fun it is raising them. I knew I was in trouble after about the first day or two of getting them. I knew right off I should've built a bigger coop and run.
